Seth Ferranti "From the Cage to the Stage"
After landing on the US Marshals Top-15 Most Wanted list, and then sentenced to 25 years in a federal prison, I felt sorry for myself for many years as I sat behind bars for a first time, nonviolent, LSD offense. I blamed the system, blamed my early life, blamed the people I had been around, and then I decided it was time to stop blaming, and start utilizing my talents to document the world that was forced around me.
I began building a writing and journalism career from inside the bars of a penitentiary. With raw portrayals of prison life and crack era gangsters at my fingertips, it was evident I had an endless amount of material. I began contributing to magazines: Don Diva, Hoopshype and VICE. My success was evident at that point and it was time to establish a brand, namely, Gorilla Convict. I became a true-crime publisher and built a website documenting my stories that the mainstream media was not willing to share. These stories are written in my books: Prison Stories and Street Legends. My life is of true perseverance and has been covered by The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and Rolling Stone.
I was released in 2015 after serving a total of 21 years. This incredible journey allowed me to expand my demographics by incorporating a new brand: GR1ND Studios. This company is a conglomeration of true crime, entertainment, and comics. GR1ND Studios is proposing a fresh variety to the comic industry by way of the American underground. These groundbreaking graphic novels tell a true story of prohibition-era mobsters, inner-city drug lords, and suburban drug dealers.
The GR1ND is also increasing my footprint in the entertainment industry. I am writing and directing short films and feature films. My first short film, Easter Bunny Assassin, will be available at sethferranti.com. My stories and writings are available at gorillaconvict.com and thegr1nd.com.
I am busy with events, speaking engagements, book signings, and panels but there is always an opportunity to open my schedule to share my story with the community. Topics may include true-crime writing, street journalism, the US prison system, inner-city gangsters, the crack era, publishing, comics, education and drug addiction.
Besides the successes of my writing, I took leadership of my life while serving my federal prison sentence, and earned an AA, BA, and MA degree, founded a successful publishing house, website, and built a journalism career; all while confined behind bars. My story is of success when everything in my life was pointing in a different direction. I am now sharing with everyone that my life is pinnacle to helping people understand there is a future available to anyone in any circumstance that is willing.
